According to a report today from Digitimes, the next round of iPads will feature some exciting differences. The main focus of the new iPad mini will be an enhanced display, which a lot of people feel has been missing from the iPad mini released earlier this year.
The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple’s Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series.
Although Digitimes’ sources have not confirmed a retina display, it would be very unlike Apple to update the display and not add retina capabilities. The only problem with putting such a powerful display on the iPad mini is that it could cause significant battery life issues. The display is already the biggest power drain on the iPad, and putting it on a smaller device with less room for battery may lead to problems. If anybody can work it out, though, it is Apple.
Additionally, the report suggested that we will see some minor updates to the lighting in the iPad, replacing the current two LED bars with just one, in order to decrease the device’s weight, and hopefully increase the battery life.
Digitimes has been hit and miss with their predictions, but none of these claims seem too outlandish, and could very well be some of the features we see in Apple’s next set of iPads.
