Apple drops to 6th place in Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics

Apple has always prided themselves on being a very “green” company, with a whole in-depth webpage detailing their carbon footprint. However, today Greenpeace released the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics 18th edition, where companies are rated for their environmental impact. As of this issue, Apple has dropped to 6th place.
Apple drops to 6th position, with a score of 4.6. Though one of the high scorers in this edition, Apple misses out on points for lack of transparency on GHG emission reporting, clean energy advocacy, further information on its management of toxic chemicals, and details on post-consumer recycled plastic use.
Greenpeace cites transparency concerns as one reason for Apple’s decline, but commends them for the contents of their products. Read the full report here.
It will be interesting to see if Apple chooses to respond to this release, as they did with the EPEAT registry this July. Stay tuned for any new information.
