How to jailbreak Using Seas0Pass 0.8

Default How to Jailbreak using Seas0nPass 0.8

{last updated January 3, 2012}

This OS X only guide will teach you how to jailbreak your Apple TV using Seas0nPass 0.8. The current version of Seas0nPass 0.8 is Seas0nPass 0.8.1. Note this is anUNTETHERED JAILBREAK, meaning you can reboot your Apple TV just like you normally would.

This guide should be used with the Apple TV running firmware version 4.4.4 (iOS 5.0.1).

Alright, let's get started. You'll need:
  • Your Apple TV.
  • The latest version of iTunes.
  • Micro-USB cable.
  • Disconnect any other iDevices from your computer.

First thing you'll need to do is download the Mac version of Seas0nPass 0.8.1 frommod.my/Seas0nPassmac081. Double-click the zip file to unzip it, and open the Seas0nPass folder to see the Seas0nPass icon. It's a good idea to move it to your Applications folder, but not necessary.

Making sure your device is NOT yet connected, double-click Seas0nPass to launch it. You will see the Seas0nPass home screen - press the Create IPSW button.

Seas0nPass will now download the current Apple TV firmware file, and go through various steps on it's own to create a jailbroken firmware image. The final step it will show is Creating IPSW.

NOTE: Depending on your internet connection speed, this could take upwards of 20 minutes as it downloads the firmware.

At this point, you'll be asked to connect the Apple TV to the computer using the Micro-USB cable. Do NOT connect the power cable. The Apple TV light should blink a couple times, then begin blinking rapidly. Once it is blinking rapidly you should point the silver included Apple TV remote at the Apple TV and hold PLAY/PAUSE and MENU at the same time for 7 seconds. This enters your Apple TV into DFU mode.

Assuming you've done this correctly (I had to use a separate Micro-USB cable as my first was cheap and didn't work), Seas0nPass will say it has Found device in DFU mode and run through a couple quick uploads to your device, then launch the iTunes restore script.

Seas0nPass will now handle the iTunes restore process on it's own. You'll see iTunes come to the front of the screen (full screen if you're in Lion), and it will automatically set up the Apple TV to restore. Do not press anything while this happens.

Once that is done, you've now got a jailbroken Apple TV. Not too bad, eh? Reconnect the Apple TV to your TV, and the first time it starts back up you'll see a red fireCore icon in the bottom right of the home screen letting you know the jailbreak was successful!
