Facebook Shows Off The New News Feed, It’s Like Going From An Old School TV To A Widescreen

Facebook Shows Off The New News Feed, It’s Like Going From An Old School TV To A Widescreen

In the beginning of March we told you that Facebook would be holding an event to talk about the future of the News Feed on March 7th (today at the time of writing this article). Sure enough the social networking giant did just that, and essentially what Facebook will be doing is making the News Feed more like the News Feed on mobile devices.
Facebook’s goal with this particular News Feed redesign was to reduce clutter and focus more on stories from people you care about. Stories on your news feed will now be bigger and Facebook will be implementing several News Feeds to explore in addition to the same News Feed you have today. Essentially Facebook’s idea to make the News Feed better was to just add more of them…

In all seriousness this seems like a good idea and you will now be able to access the following News Feed variations when the redesign goes live.
  • All Friends – a feed that shows you everything your friends are sharing
  • Photos – a feed with nothing but photos from your friends and the Pages you like
  • Music – a feed with posts about the music you listen to
  • Following – a feed with the latest news from the Pages you like and the people you follow
Thanks to the addition of these new News Feeds, you should be better able to filter which content you want to see at a particular moment.

As mentioned previously, the new Facebook News Feed will actually look and function more like the mobile News Feed currently on your smartphone or tablet. For example, the left-hand menu is accessible anywhere you go on Facebook. The search engine giant wants to make a more unified experience.
Facebook will be rolling out the new News Feed slowly over the coming weeks on both the web and mobile. You can actually opt-in for the new News Feed by visiting a special page by clicking here. Additionally, these design updates will be available on your iPhone and iPad in the coming weeks and to Android soon after.
